BR-52 Steam Locomotive

Bartek Muczyń

BR-52 Steam Locomotive is a personal project by Bartek Muczyń, focused on accuracy, high quality textures and shaders, and a fully 3D workflow. The locomotive and tender were unwrapped across six UDIM tiles to maintain high texture quality, with all surfaces textured in Adobe 3D Painter using 8K maps.

The surrounding scene relies heavily on ForestPack to populate dense greenery, paired with RailClone for repeating elements such as railway tracks, telegraph lines, and wooden logs in the canal. Smoke and steam were simulated in Embergen and rendered as VDBs in 3ds Max with V-Ray, followed by final postproduction in Affinity. Apart from cutout figures, every element in the scene is fully 3D, with no AI tools or matte painting used.

The result is a technically demanding project that shows how ForestPack and RailClone fit naturally into complex, detail-driven visualisation work.
