This ForestPack update adds several small but handy improvements guided by user feedback. You can now automatically relink textures to your library path, update ForestSets manually or automatically when changing layers, and access new contextual tools for both ForestSet and ForestLOD. Alongside these additions, a series of UI and stability fixes make managing layers, libraries, and presets much smoother.
Textures can now be relinked automatically
ForestPack can now relink texture files directly to the maps folder inside your library path. Turn it on in Library → Preferences, and texture paths will be automatically mapped using the the library structure. For network-based pipelines, ForestPack now plays well with 3ds Max’s UNC path settings. In previous releases we added the maps folders to user paths, this option remains, but we have added another option for managing assets for improved flexibility especially when using distributed rendering.
Install libraries in any location - including network drives
You now have full control over where ForestPack stores its built-in libraries. The Assets folder can be pointed to any local directory or a shared network location, making it easier to manage libraries across teams. The former Network shared folder option has been renamed Packages Cache folder to better reflect its role as a shared download cache, preventing artists from having to download the same packages individually. Cancelling an installation is also more reliable. You can learn more about this improvement on this dedicated post.
ForestSet, Now Smarter
ForestSet gains a new update mode. You can refresh it manually, or let it update when layers change. Auto-update stays off by default to keep large scenes responsive, but when you need it, it’s just a click away.
A new contextual menu adds quick access to geometries and dependencies inside a ForestSet, making it much easier to select source areas and scatter items in complex setups.
Many more small improvements
Several small but meaningful changes make ForestPack feel more polished:
- When Areas are locked because Distribution mode isn’t set to Image, ForestPack now provides a clearer message so you always understand what’s happening in your setup.
- ForestSet’s update from layers mode no longer rebuilds when unrelated layers are edited.
- ForestIvy presets now disable texture tiling correctly.
- ForestSet remembers the size of its item list between sessions.
- ForestLOD lists are resizable again.
- Importing from Scene with portable formats enabled now uses the correct extension.
- Library preferences properly save even when the Browser is opened from the toolbar.
