The only trees in our future mustn't be digital

At iToo Software, we live and breathe 3D plants and trees. We've devoted ourselves to making the best tools for creating huge swathes of CG foliage for games, architecture, and VFX. But digital forests are no substitute for the real thing. Every year we're still losing an area of forest roughly the size of Switzerland, and there are no plugins for reality.

Forests are an essential part of our ecosystem and play a vital role in our health. They're the lungs of the earth, producing oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide. They're home to an enormous variety of plant and animal species, many of which are endangered, and some we've yet even to discover.

Forests sustain life on earth. They help to purify the air we breathe by removing pollutants and other harmful particles. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, which helps to reduce the effects of climate change. Forests also help to regulate the water cycle, which is essential for agriculture and the production of food.

Forests improve our mental health. Studies have shown time and again that spending time in nature can help to reduce stress, boost our immune systems, improve mood, and increase feelings of well-being. Forests provide a peaceful and calming environment, which can help to reduce the symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions.

Forests maintain our physical health. They provide a habitat for many plant and animal species, which are used in the production of medicines. It is estimated that 50,000 plant species have medicinal value. Forests also provide 76 million tonnes of food per year, such as fruits, nuts, and mushrooms, which are rich in vitamins and minerals.

In short, forests are essential, and we're losing them at a rate of 10 million hectares per year. That's why iToo Software supports the International Day of Forests, because we recognize the importance of forests for our health and the health of the planet. Today, we invite you to reflect on the importance of Forests, make sustainable choices, recycle and save energy, maybe plant or sponsor a tree, consider visiting or getting involved at a local nature reserve, or simply create your own post to help raise awareness.
