We’re expanding the RailClone Systems collection this July with two revamped libraries designed to make creating railings faster and easier than ever.
Iron Railings and Wooden Railings are now available via Update Manager, each with twelve fully parametric, ready-to-use systems ready to use in your scenes.
The new systems are designed for ease of use with many editable parameters that can be adjusted without ever opening the Style Editor. Users can customise top, mid, and bottom rail positions, edit post spacing and height, and apply deformation to follow inclined splines for use on staircases, ramps, and other non-planar terrains. If you're detailing an exterior scene or rendering an interior, these libraries are made to dramatically improve setup time without sacrificing creative control.
Each system is accessible through the RailClone Library Browser and ready to go out of the box. There’s no need to create a graph from scratch or spend time trying to understand complex setups, just load a style, adjust parameters to fit the design, and you're done.
This is just the start, work is already in progress to expand our Systems collections with updated glass railings, an extended and improved collection of mouldings for interior designers, and a new set of parametric folding shades with many more to follow. We’re always keen to hear what would help your workflow, so feel free to send your suggestions to the team.
Several improvements to RailClone since version 7 release
Supporting this release, there have been several RailClone updates since the release of version 7. These are mainly small improvements and fixes to improve stability, compatibility plus a few UX tweaks. For a start, the selector dialogs are now larger and importantly also resizable to make selecting sources of segments and paths much easier. The Offset operator now uses the spline's own coordinate system, which is particularly useful when working with rotated splines. Edge detection is improved when using Surface and Spline Areas with coincident edges. Several scaling inconsistencies have been fixed in the Windows library and our new Portable library format that is not limited by Max versions, and several updates ensure better integration with Arnold and V-Ray 6 in 3ds Max 2026. A few instancing and modifier-related issues have also been addressed. You can see a list of the updates on our forum.
